music reviewSoma ::: "Inner Cinema "spaghetti western - dub - electronica - trip hop - world musicSoma is a project by the same folks responsible for SNOG - David Thrussel and Pieter Bourke. This cd is absolutely awesome. Soma's music is an alluring blend of dub, trip-hop, ambient-industrial, indian-middle eastern percussion, and the soundtrack themes of spaghetti western films. In particular it is their incorporation of the latter two influences into their electronic world which gives Soma their unique sound. Soma's music is predominantly instrumental with several tracks containing exotic and hypnotic vocal mantra-like utterances. The track titles and imagery indicate Soma's interest in the mythology of lost ancient civilisations such as atlantis and the hollow earth theory as well as western myticism. But don't let that description make you think that their music is soppy new-agey-ambience because that it certainly isn't! This c.d. has real substance and comes very very recommended. It's a true masterpiece in my books. If you can't find a copy of Soma's c.d.s in your local alternative record stores you can write to Extreme Records: PO Box 147 Preston 3072 Victoria Australia.www.webweaver.com.au/imcc/ |
